My story

I’m Ralph — Dutch historian, storyteller, and founder of Dutch Cultural Journeys. I started this company because I love meeting people, I love being being outside and showing travelers the deeper layers of the Netherlands, Belgium & Luxembourg – the Benelux. My approach is simple:

Engaging, knowledgeable, fun, and organized — with the professionalism of a trained historian, the experience of a local and the flexibility of a seasoned tour operator.

What Makes My Journeys Different

I don’t follow scripts. I build experiences.
From Amsterdam’s hidden churches to quiet island villages at Marken and medieval courtyards in Delft and Leiden, I show you the stories behind the places — the ones locals grew up with. My guests often describe me as enthusiastic, sociable, engaging, and a wealth of knowledge. And that’s exactly how I want the journey to feel: insightful, relaxed, and genuinely enjoyable.

Why I Do This

As a kid, every Saturday meant a warm stroopwafel from the market and I vividly remember the first bite of a Dutch herring — small cultural and culinary rituals that taught me how culture lives in stories, smells, people, and traditions. That’s still how I guide today. My goal is to take you from curious to fulfilled, from “we’ve seen Amsterdam” to “we finally understand it and to make your visit to the Benelux as smooth, fun, easy & memorable as possible.

” I was born and raised in the Netherlands, where bicycles are a way of life and history lives around every corner. I studied history at the University of Amsterdam and in Singapore, and I’ve spent over 15 years guiding visitors from around the world, through the Netherlands, Belgium & Luxembourg, but wider aswell through South-Korea, Jordan, Iran, Cuba, Greece, Spain, Portugal & France, to name a few.

Whether we’re walking along 17th-century canals, sampling cheese at a market, or discussing Rembrandt’s techniques, I aim to make every tour feel personal, enriching, and memorable. My specialty is crafting private, in-depth experiences that go beyond the usual sightseeing.
