On this day trip, we explore the cemetery’s quiet beauty, its powerful memorials, and the personal stories behind the names engraved in stone. As a historian, I’ll guide you through the events of 1944–45, the battles of the American divisions that fought here, and the extraordinary Dutch tradition of “adopting” graves — a bond of gratitude that continues to this day.

Journey into Leiden, a city too often overlooked
Experience Leiden the way it deserves to be felt: from the water, where the city reveals its quiet magic. As we glide through its narrow canals, under stone bridges and past centuries-old houses, you’ll see why Leiden has inspired scholars, painters, and explorers for over 800 years. The boat ride offers a serene perspective on the city’s Golden Age architecture and its intimate, almost hidden beauty.
Back on land, we dive into the heart of Leiden — the Burcht, the Pieterskerk quarter, Rembrandt’s origins, and the city’s network of hofjes and scholarly streets. Leiden is a place where history feels alive: a mix of elegance, curiosity, and old-world charm that I’m genuinely passionate about sharing. This is not just a visit — it’s a city that stays with you. It’s where my family is rooted and my place of birth.

We had a fantastic experience exploring Amsterdam and Leiden with Ralph as a family with our three daughters. He is extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and has a wonderful ability to tailor the tour to his audience, keeping everyone engaged. What really sets Ralph apart from the many “would-be” guides is his genuine local cultural knowledge and deep understanding of Dutch history and everyday life. His tours feel personal and authentic, never scripted or generic. A wonderful way to experience the Netherlands beyond the usual tourist perspective. Highly recommended!Posted on Google![]()

Ralph led our group of 23 family members aged 6 to 65 through Amsterdam. First on a boat tour where he provided us with an amazing and knowledgeable tour of the canals. We then completed a stroepwaffles making workshop. Ralph set an excellent pace for our group and was able to engage everyone from young to old! I would recommend anyone to contact Ralph to help your group have a great time!Posted on Google![]()
